“. . . engaging characters–quirky, flawed, but endearing–a vivid sense of place, and a wonderfully droll, tell-it-like-it-is narrator. . . the ideal book to lose yourself in on a rainy–or any day.”  ~ NAEEM MURR, author of The Boy, The Genius of the Sea, and The Perfect Man.

PATRICIA HICKMAN is an awardwinning novelist whose works receive consistently good reviews from national reviewers like Publishers’ Weekly. She first studied creative writing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and then went on to receive her MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte. PATRICIA writes for major publishers and her sixteenth novel, The Pirate Queen, was on a SIBA bestseller list, the Pulpwood Queens. If upmarket fiction can be branded, her stories attempt to possess the dreams of southern culture-”our village secrets, our passion for idioms, our spiritual passages, and our companionable pilgrimages.”
That said, I feel as if I should confess something–this is actually me, PH, talking because we writers are all responsible for writing the content you read about us. You’ve no idea how awkward it is to write about one’s self in third person. Here’s a post from my blog (not another promotion, though) VillageWriter:
Last night, I was dead-dog-tired. You know, drag-the-carcass-to-bed-and-fall-in-comatose tired? But as I am obligated to so many, I checked email once more; my agent’s assistant had indeed emailed asking for an updated bio. They’re preparing the pitch package, etc.
Something about it being midnight, or the peach schnapps I had just downed, or body stiffness after a straight three days and nights crouched in a Gollum-like trance editing student stories, that those sinister thoughts that slip through the sensible synaptic threads and overwrite our inhibitions staged a coup:

“PATRICIA HICKMAN is an award‐winning novelist whose work is praised by critical reviews including Publishers’ Weekly and Library Journal. If that isn’t nauseating enough, she receives consistent high-starred reviews from Amazon reviewers and blogging fans. PATRICIA first studied creative writing at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and then went on to receive her MFA in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte. Notice the wording of that first one–yes, she shinnied past the undergrads and begged her way into the MFA program. That said, she admittedly loathes writing bios that make her sound like a pageant contestant.

PATRICIA writes for major publishers and her sixteenth book, The Pirate Queen, was selected as a SIBA book club best seller (Pulpwood Queens). She had to wear a tiara for the event, but the food was good and dancing with other tiara-sporting authors made her feel less self-conscious. Patricia is an adjunct professor of creative writing and has taught in writing workshops around the country. She enjoys trout fishing and hiking in the mountains of North Carolina, hanging out at local haunts, and pretending to like golf. She utilizes social networking venus including FaceBook and Twitter. She blogs at www.villagewriter.blogspot.com. Her trademark hi-market fiction are stories set in small towns and coastal villages, thus branding her novels “Small Towns–Big Stories.” She also loathes branding, but when forced, admits it isn’t as challenging as sporting a tiara. . . or writing author bios.
